Boy Bitten By Snake (Updated)

This little boy was walking through the garden when a snake bit him. After symptoms of envenomation began developing, they had a several hour canoe ride to an aid post. Then we got the call. We picked up a nurse from Boram hospital and took her along on the flight so she could begin administering anti-venom right away. We flew them back to Wewak, loaded them on the ambulance, and whisked them away to the hospital. Some of our patients have never been to town before (or have even seen cars or electricity) and so they’re confused, scared, and not sure how to proceed. So we help them check in, let them know what to expect, and then send someone the next day to visit them and bring them a patient care pack which typically includes basic toiletries and an audio Bible in the Tok Pisin language.

Thank you guys so much for helping us be involved! Carrying this little boy into the hospital felt surreal. My heart goes out to these people and I’m grateful to be able to help. Thank you.

UPDATE: I originally said that this was a little girl. It was not. He is, in fact, a boy. At least that’s what my sources told me. Maybe I should work a little harder on my language training. His name is Manasseh and, after getting anti-venom, recovered quickly. I was told that the next day he was eating like a horse. He has since been released! He recovered so fast I didn’t have time to meet him. Thanks everyone for praying!
