Airplanes are expensive and require quite the effort to include in your mission program. So why use them?
Well, that’s a good question. Not all mission organizations need them but for some mission programs, they’re an indispensable tool that drastically speed up Bible translation, or open doors to medical care never before available in the area, or allow missionary families to serve on the field longer while staying more emotionally and spiritually healthy. It’s hard to find missionaries. It’s even harder to find long term missionaries. Aviation helps make the mission field more accessible to a bigger pool of people and helps produce more long term missionaries.
I don’t believe everyone is called to be an aircraft mechanic. Thank goodness, right!? Some people can’t even change their own oil. But not everyone is called to be a linguist. Thank goodness! I don’t even know what a dangling participle is (despite the best efforts of my teachers). We’re all built for different purposes. Like Paul said. You may be an arm, I may be a foot. God has called us to work together to get the Gospel to even the most remote parts of the world. We want to help do that by fixing missionary airplanes.
